It is so nice to have our car in Nome.
It is a 2005 Ford Escape. It is just big enough to still be an SUV but small enough that it is not huge, like a Hummer. It is truly a comfort.
Our apartment building is behind the school. This is at the 3.5 mile marker out of the city on the Nome-Teller Highway. It is paved all the way to the high school/junior high. That is still a little distance though, especially when it comes to the snow and cold. If we lived in town, we would still need a car for me to commute to work at the school. Six of one, half a dozen of another.
It's nice to have a car. We did without from August through November.
